Dhanteras is the second day of Diwali. Today lord Dhanvantari is worshipped for good health and disease free life.

According to Indian mythology, Devas (Gods)and asuras(Devils) performed the Samudra manthan (ocean churning) for the Amrita (the divine nectar of immortality)

During this came Dhanvantari , who was physician of gods.He came with a jar of elixir .

Dhanteras God

Dhanvantari is also called as God of Ayurveda.

It is said that this day gives you a healthy body and mind. Once you get these things ,you automatically work better, study better and then comes the goddess Laxmi which is mainly worshipped on the main day of Diwali. Laxmi is the Goddess of wealth.

So, on Dhanteras you ask for good health ultimately leading you towards good wealth.

God Dhanteras and Goddess Laxmi

At my native place , On this day we keep coriander seeds and jaggery as a prasad. It has certain health benefits too.

So, whatever our ancestors started as a ritual or festivals, we can’t say they were unaware of science and food nutrition.

Ayurveda is one of the biggest examples of it. Of course we can’t follow all things blindly , but if we research more and more, we unfold more mysteries in the laboratories. Whatever Ayurveda has told now comes as a new diet pattern or lifestyle. Treatments done by Ayurveda are slow but very effective in the long terms. Therefore in a serious or life threatening situation we can’t rely or wait for the magic to happen. There we need chemical intervention.

But if not in an emergency, Do try Ayurveda religiously sometime. It will show you magic for sure.

That’s the reason we worship this God of Ayurveda or Doctor of Ayurveda Lord Dhanvantari.

How do you celebrate this day? Let me know.

Happy Dhanteras to everyone. Wish you and your loved ones a very healthy and wealthy prosperous Life ahead.
